After almost a century of oblivion, the ballet music “Die blaue Blume” by Frank Martin will finally be performed. Originally composed in 1936 for a competition organized by the Zurich Opera Ballet, the work remained unheard due to its avant-garde approach, as the choreographers Pino and Pia Mlakar considered it too demanding for the dancers.
Recently, the composer’s family discovered the score when selling the family estate after the death of Martin’s wife. As part of the Frank Martin Odyssey, the family has entrusted the privilege and responsibility for the premiere to conductor Thierry Fischer. In collaboration with L’Odyssée Frank Martin and the Haute École de Musique (HEM), the work will now be presented in a spectacular world premiere at Geneva’s Bâtiment des Forces Motrices on 19 October 2024.
